New research suggests an emerging trend for grooms to pick more than one best man, splitting the role between two or three buddies, telegraph.co.uk reports.
Traditionally, it is the bride who asks numerous loved ones for support on her big day in the guise of maid/matron of honour and bridesmaids. However, findings from a poll conducted by men’s clothing retailer Jacamo, show that the trend has reached the husbands-to-be.
A survey of 1,000 men revealed that over a third of grooms have chosen a minimum of two best men. Within the 20 to 30-year old age bracket, 46 per cent of grooms have done so. 40 per cent of 18 to 20 year old respondents said they would want four ‘best men’.
Having more best men means that the groom’s wedding responsibilities and pressures can be further shared, such as writing vows, speeches and finding the perfect wedding reception venue. Not to mention the advantages of two or three deviant brains when it comes to sorting out a stag night to remember.
More importantly, perhaps, a fifth of grooms said they would choose best men that could be relied on to get them to the church on time. A tenth said they had picked a best man based on his ability to create a hilarious speech, according to dailymail.co.uk.
Martin Roberts, a spokesman for Jacamo said: “It’s great to see men are taking the ‘more the merrier’ approach to choosing their best men – if you’ve got more than one best mate, why pick between them?”
