The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) was today presented with a selection of products worth GH? 6,620 from Accra Brewery Limited towards the 28th National Farmers? Day celebration, dubbed, ?Grow more food: Strengthening Farmer Based Organisations for Market Place Bargaining Power?. The event is scheduled for Friday 2nd November 2012 and will take place at Abokobi in the Greater Accra Region.
The package, which is a sign of appreciation to Ghanaian farmers for their significant contributions towards the growth of Accra Brewery and the nation?s economy, constituted 20 cases each of 11 brands of the company, namely Club Premium Lager, Castle Milk Stout, Stone Strong Lager, Chairman Malt Liquor, Club Shandy, Castle Milk Malt, Club Cola, Club Muscatella, Club Orange, Club Quinine Tonic and Club Soda.
During the presentation to MoFA, Mr. Kevin Osborn, Technical Director of Accra Brewery Limited, said, ?We take a lot of pride in the use of locally grown raw materials in the production of our brands, especially Club Premium Lager and Chibuku Shake Shake, and as such the role of our farmers in the success of our business is of much value to us?.
He also stated that the brewery commissioned a US$2.5M Chibuku commercial plant earlier this year which has an annual capacity of 100,000 hectolitres. He explained that the
plant processes over 200 tonnes of sorghum and 300 tonnes of maize grown by more than 550 local farmers.
He expressed sincere appreciation towards the hardworking farmers and said, ?Accra Brewery will continue to support the occasion that celebrates the achievement of our farmers into the future?.
During the presentation, Hon. Yaw Effah-Baafi, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Crops said, ?We want to assure you that the donation will be used for the purpose for which it is intended and we will pass it on to our deserving farmers. We thank you so much and we do recognise your contribution. We want to say that the National Farmers? Day celebration would not be successful without your donations?.
The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Livestock, Hon. Dr. Tia Alfred Sugri and the Director of Finance and Administration, Ms. Cecilia Erzuah were also present to receive the donations.
This is the 28th consecutive time that Accra Brewery Ltd has donated to Farmers? Day and it continues to highlight its strong commitment to supporting the Ghanaian economy through increased use of local raw materials, thereby creating rural wealth.
