- Having spent over 40 years in the hotel and gaming business, he retired from corporate life in 2007 having sold Hilton International, where he was Group Chief Executive, to Hilton Hotels Corporation for ?4 billion.
- He was knighted for services to the hotel and catering industry in 2006.
