Lima, October 22nd, 2012.- After 10 months of achievements in Peru, Mauricio Leyva Arboleda, Chairman of Uni?n de Cervecer?as Peruanas Backus and Johnston S.A.A., will move away from the company to become the Managing Director of SABMiller in South Africa. For that reason, Mauricio Leyva will remain Chairman and Board Member of Backus until December 31st, 2012.
Prior to joining Backus in January 2012, Mauricio Leyva was Chairman of Cervecer?a Hondure?a after being Vice Chairman of Marketing of Bavaria in Colombia. He was also Vice Chairman of Marketing, Operations and Sales of Avianca, Vice Chairman of Marketing and Sales of Comcel S.A. and consultant of McKinsey in Germany. He studied Business Administration at Los Andes University and has an M.A. in International Management by the Universit? de Nancy, France.
Under his leadership, Backus has obtained successful financial results, growth of sales volume and market share, managing to increase the market share of the company by 2%, from 92% in September of 2011 to 94% in September 2012.
Also under his management, a new business model of the company was implemented that integrates the sales, telesales and distribution processes, with the objective of being closer to clients and consumers, ensuring better market execution, directed by the brands and ensuring the growth and sustainability of the business.
In 2012, Backus has been awarded with important prizes like the Socially Responsible Company award and an award given to the Top 10 Most Admired Companies in Peru, which is chosen by the country’s top business leaders.
