Students enrolled in the Cornell School of Hotel Administration?s Catering and Special Events Management class will host their annual Charity Auction on Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. in the Beck Center in Statler Hall on the Cornell University campus. The theme for this year’s auction is Mad MENhattan, and the students will present a 1960s Manhattan-style evening as represented by the 17-time Emmy-nominated show, Mad Men.
This year?s event will feature both a live and silent auction. At the silent auction, beginning at 6:00 p.m., participants can bid on items from local restaurant dinners to vacations in Hawaii while enjoying delectable hors d?houvres. At the live auction guests can enjoy bidding on items in a competitive and exciting environment. Be prepared to walk home with fabulous items that also benefit the community at large. Tickets are on sale on cornelltickets.com and can also be purchased from the students in the Catering and Special Events Management class. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Proceeds will go to Loaves and Fishes, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. Loaves and Fishes, is a Tompkins County-based charity that provides food and shelter to those in need. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a nationwide charity that works to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation is an international charity with the goal of becoming the largest source for non-profit funding dedicated to turning lung cancer into a manageable disease. The students hope to surpass last year?s goal and raise more than $20,000 for these great causes.
Senior Lecturer Rupert Spies remarked, ?The auction proves to be a continuing success because the students are not only giving back to the community but also putting their classroom learning into practice through hosting a live event.?
