Food Safety Culture in Businesses: request for your help

fsa

The Food Standards Agency has commissioned Greenstreet Berman Ltd to develop a method?to help improve staff attitudes towards food safety and food hygiene. This work is prompted in part by a fatal outbreak of E. coli O157 in South Wales in 2005?which highlighted the importance of staff behaviours in businesses, particularly their attitudes towards applying good food hygiene working practices.

As part of this work we are?developing a question set and guidance for use by local authority food hygiene inspectors, particularly aimed towards micro and small businesses.

We would ask that you (or a colleague) help with this work by attending a workshop being run by Greenstreet Berman Ltd. The workshop will include:

1.??? An outline of the food safety culture tool;

2.??? A review by you of the tool – comprehension, applicability to micro and small firms, and cultural appropriateness of the questions;

3.??? A hypothetical assessment by you of?a food business that you are familiar with;

4.????An assessment of the face validity and importance of each question;

5.??? A general discussion and suggested amendments.

The workshop will provide you with an introduction to food safety culture, a copy of the draft tool?and an opportunity to comment on a method that may be applied by food hygiene inspectors to your business.

The workshop will be held at the Thistle hotel in Barbican on the 28th February from 9:30am to 11:30am.

We are aiming for 20 persons to attend the workshop.

Please do contact myself Sharon Egan at the Food Standards Agency if you have any questions. My telephone number is 020 7276 8366 and my email is [email protected].

The workshop is being organised by Greenstreet Berman Ltd, particularly Trevor Stockwell (T:020 3102-2125, [email protected]). Please respond to Trevor regarding whether you can attend the workshop.
