InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has been awarded a Gifted ranking in the second annual L2 Digital IQ Index?: Hotels.
Developed by L2, a think tank for digital innovation, and NYU Stern Professor Scott Galloway, the Digital IQ Index is a robust tool that scores brands on over 350 quantitative and qualitative data points across four dimensions: website, digital marketing, social media and mobile.
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts was one of only 11 hotel brands to achieve the Gifted ranking and ranked sixth out of the 52 hotel brands in the Index.
Brands that were awarded the Gifted ranking experimented across platforms with tactics including concierge mobile applications, on-site user reviews, shareable destination guides and programming on Instagram, Pinterest and other emerging platforms.
InterContinental?s guest-sourced photos helped to contribute to the Index rating. In January, InterContinental encouraged guests to submit photos from their stays, collecting them via Twitter and sharing them on Facebook. In fewer than 10 days, the brand?s Facebook page received 14,661 ?likes?.
Other digital innovations from InterContinental include the Concierge Insider Guides iPad app, a first for the hotel industry, launched in 2010, and the InterContinental Cookbook iPad app, launched in 2011 featuring recipes from our chefs around the world.
?Our guests want to feel like locals rather than tourists when they travel and our concierge destination videos and iPad apps demonstrate our authentic knowledge,? says Simon Scoot, Vice President Global Brand Management, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.
?Our social media platforms provide further ways for our guests to interact with us and share their own insider knowledge with other guests. This is evident in the popularity of our Facebook album, ?The world of InterContinental, seen through our guests? cameras?, which has been shared with 34,722 of our Facebook fans.?
