The assembly, which brings together representatives of all of the key stakeholders of the Olympic Movement and the Games Organising Committee, serves as a forum to discuss the progress of the Games as they enter the final delivery phase of the Olympic project.
After opening the meeting, President Rogge passed the floor to the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) delegation led by its Chair, Sebastian Coe. Coe was joined by LOCOG CEO Paul Deighton, Communications Director Jackie Brock-Doyle, Director of Games Operations Doug Arnot and Sports Director Debbie Jevans. The LOCOG team reported on their progress to date and their expectations for the coming days.
The LOCOG report was followed by updates from the different groups represented around the table. These groups include the IOC Coordination Commission, represented by its Chairman, Denis Oswald; the Association of National Olympic Committees; the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations; the IOC Athletes? Commission; the IOC Executive Board Vice-Presidents; and the IOC administration.
In the course of the meeting, President Rogge wished LOCOG good luck for the Games and spoke of his confidence in their team. This sentiment was echoed by Denis Oswald, who underlined the quality of the work that LOCOG had carried out in the preparatory period.
The Games Coordination meeting is a regular forum at Games time to ensure that all of the key Olympic Movement stakeholders are able to regularly exchange at the senior level on the progress of the Olympic Games. It forms part of the IOC?s wider Games management structure, which includes evaluation commissions, coordination commissions and a large knowledge transfer programme.
