The IOC expressed its willingness to find a solution to the long-standing problems faced by the Olympic Movement in Panama. To that end, a process has been initiated by the IOC in order to clarify the composition of the NOC of Panama in close collaboration with the International Federations concerned and to make sure that the NOC elections will be held in December 2012 with the participation of all the legitimate components of the Olympic Movement in Panama. The IOC is closely monitoring this election process and the election rules in order to make sure that the NOC elections will be free, democratic, fair, transparent and credible, and will be held in accordance with the Olympic Charter, the Statutes of the NOC and the applicable laws of the country.
President Martinelli committed himself to strictly respecting the principles and rules which govern the Olympic Movement and fully supporting the process initiated and supervised by the IOC in the interest of the Olympic Movement in Panama and the athletes. He expressed his trust in the process monitored by the IOC and is confident that the NOC elections in December 2012 will provide a definitive solution to the long-standing issues affecting the Olympic Movement in Panama and mark a new era for sport in Panama.
El Presidente del COI se re?ne con el Presidente de la Republica de Panam?
Hoy tuvo lugar en Londres una reuni?n fruct?fera entre el Presidente del COI y el Sr. Ricardo Martinelli, Presidente de la Republica de Panam?, estando presentes el Sr. Melit?n S?nchez, miembro del COI en Panam?, y el Sr. Miguel Sanchiz, Presidente del CON de Panam?, acompa?ado por el Vicepresidente y Jefe de Misi?n Sr. Fernando Samaniego, con el prop?sito de revisar la situaci?n conflictiva que afecta el Movimiento Ol?mpico en Panam? desde hace a?os.
El COI ha expresado su voluntad de encontrar una soluci?n a los problemas de largo plazo del Movimiento Ol?mpico en Panam?. Con este objetivo, el COI ha iniciado un proceso para clarificar la composici?n del CON de Panam? en estrecha colaboraci?n con las Federaciones Internacionales implicadas y asegurar que la elecciones tengan lugar en diciembre del 2012 contando con la participaci?n de todos los representantes leg?timos del Movimiento Ol?mpico en Panam?. El COI sigue muy atentamente este proceso de elecci?n y las reglas de elecciones para garantizar que las elecciones en el CON ser?n libres, democr?ticas, justas, transparentes y cre?bles, y que se celebraran en conformidad con la Carta Ol?mpica, los Estatutos del CON y la leyes aplicables en el pa?s.
El Sr. Martinelli se ha comprometido personalmente a respetar de forma estricta los principios y reglas que regulan el Movimiento Ol?mpico y a apoyar el proceso iniciado y supervisado por el COI a beneficio del Movimiento Ol?mpico y los atletas en Panam?. Ha comunicado su confianza en el proceso supervisado por el COI y en el hecho que las elecciones en diciembre del 2012 solucionar?n definitivamente los problemas de largo plazo que afectan el Movimiento Ol?mpico de Panam? y marcaran el comienzo de una nueva era para el deporte paname?o.
