Two leisure industry chiefs have predicted a big jubilee weekend for bars, pubs and restaurants around the London area.
UK residents will enjoy a bumper bank holiday weekend from Saturday June 2 to Tuesday June 5, with those well-versed in the leisure industry envisaging a lucrative period for the capital’s venues.
Talking to london24.com, Club la Costa (CLC) holiday rentals director Laurence Hicks stated: “Spending on holiday accommodation, pubs, restaurants, attractions and all modes of travel will greatly increase during the first week of June.”
Bank of England governer Sir Mervyn King had previously claimed that businesses are unlikely to benefit from any increase in revenue over the weekend. However, Mr Hicks was quick to dismiss the statements made by the “doom merchants” – the chief believing that staff in venues for hire and other establishments will be working “flat out” over the period.
This was also echoed by a representative for London financial services group PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC). Liz Hall, head of hospitality and leisure research at the company, sees great business ahead for many of London’s available venues, which will be looking to impress tourists in the ramp up to the Olympics.
“It should be a good weekend for the capital with all eyes on London ahead of the Olympics,” she told pressassociation.com. “Restaurants, bars and cafés are likely to benefit the most from the large crowds of visitors flocking to the capital.”
