LOCOG?s GET SET initiative inspires children all around the UK

The initiative is designed to introduce the Olympic Values of excellence, friendship and respect, and the Paralympic Values of determination, inspiration, courage and equality to young people aged between three and 19 by providing free learning resources. So far, more than 23,500 schools and colleges have joined GET SET.

Ever since the handover in Beijing, LOCOG and the GET SET scheme has held frequent events across the UK in celebration of sport and the Olympic Values, culminating in London 2012 World Sport Day on 25 June, which encouraged thousands of young people from across the country to celebrate how sport can bring the world together.

In addition, schools and colleges across the UK that are demonstrating a commitment to living the Olympic and Paralympic Values are allowed to join the GET SET network, the London 2012 reward and recognition scheme. The 17,400 plus members who currently belong to the network all have the right to use the London 2012 education logo, and are given priority access to the most exclusive prizes and opportunities, such as tours of the Olympic Park and tickets to London 2012 events.

A selection of local primary school GET SET network students were also given the opportunity to be flag bearers and player escorts at the London 2012 Olympic Games Football tournament.

LOCOG Chair Seb Coe said ahead of the tournament: ?There are already so many exciting ways schools are getting involved and playing their part in London 2012. This is another great opportunity run through Get Set which will show London 2012?s commitment to put young people at the heart of the Games.?
