Company Selected as a Working Mother ?100 Best Company? for 21st Year.
Working Mother has named Marriott International as one of the 2012 Working Mother 100 Best Companies. The companies will be recognized in the October/November issue of the magazine, on www.workingmother.com, and will be honored at the Work Life Congress, to be held October 8 at the New York Marriott Marquis. Marriott has been a part of this elite list for 21 years, earning a place in Working Mother?s Hall of Fame.
Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media, says, ?This year?s 100 Best Companies are leading the way for the rest of the nation. They have created not only essential benefits, like flexible work options and telecommuting, but have also shown their commitment in new ways like elder care referral and legal assistance to help busy parents manage their personal lives as well as their careers.?
One of Marriott?s award-winning working mothers, Mildre Gonzalez (pictured with her sons Franklin Jr., and Irving), has enjoyed many opportunities during her 18 years with the company. In addition to raising her family, Gonzalez progressed in her career and inspired others to take risks to better their own lives. She now serves as the Assistant General Manager for Courtyard by Marriott Arlington Crystal City/Reagan National Airport.
“It has been a blessing to work for Marriott International,? said Gonzalez. ?I could not have done it without the support from my co-workers, managers and family. The founder?s quote, ?Take care of our associates and they will take care of our guests,? continues to inspire me every day. My family and I owe much of our success to what I’ve learned through Marriott.”
Marriott?s philosophy of taking care of its associates is evident in the company?s TakeCare Wellness program. The program, which has been in place for two years, provides associates with tools and resources to manage their health and achieve their health goals. TakeCare includes many benefits that are designed to encourage healthy behaviors such as a free smoking cessation program, free preventive care, a comprehensive health assessment and access to free health coaches. In addition, a network of hotel-based Wellness Champions support worksite health challenges and deliver resources and tips to help their associates live a healthy lifestyle.
TakeCare was introduced through Marriott?s Living Our Core Values program, which was delivered by general managers to more than 61,000 associates working in Marriott hotels across the U.S. and Canada. Topics included healthy eating and the need for exercise, information on making the most of your health care program and benefits, and tips on how you can start now to take care of yourself with the TakeCare program.
?Marriott?s long-standing culture of taking care of its employees, many of whom are working parents, is the key to the success of the company,? said David Rodriguez, executive vice president and chief human resources officer. ?Marriott?s family-friendly benefits and programs help create a work environment that enables associates to maintain integration between work and home, while they continue to advance in their careers.?
Earlier this year, Working Mother magazine also named Marriott a Best Company for Hourly Workers, and the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE) recognized the company as a Top Company for Executive Women.
