Many remain on pre-Games training camps or were competing during the first days of competition. Even so, many still dressed up in their designated Opening Ceremony outfits to host their own mini processions.
With racing beginning today, Great Britain?s rowers opted to march around rowing and canoe sprint venue Eton Dorney in their white and gold tracksuits, led by flag bearing Olympic silver medallist Katherine Grainger.
On training camp in Barcelona, Great Britain sprint canoeist Liam Heath made his own replica torch for a small ceremony with his 200m teammates and training partners. ?Let the Games begin? he tweeted.
Great Britain?s athletics squad, also on training camp, got in the mood with Union flags and crazy glasses in Portugal.
In Scotland, the US women?s football team proved equally undeterred as they hosted a similar celebration alongside the official ceremony. Striker Sydney Leroux tweeted: ?The opening ceremonies are in Glasgow as well.. You didn’t know?!?
In the Athletes? Village, 14-time Olympic Champion Michael Phelps is pictured slumped in front of the giant flaming Olympic rings.
However, US gymnast Jake Dalton more decidedly puts his feet up, tweeting: ?My seat for the opening ceremonies! Front row!?
