Back in May, Miramar Group invited all full and part-time fashion design students of Hong Kong institutions to submit uniform designs for their latest designer lifestyle hotel ? Mira Moon ? due to open on in Wanchai in 2013. The winning designs will be worn by the hotel team, and the winner will take home HK$40,000 worth of prices including HK$10,000 cash, the chance to participate in press events and uniform production, plus an internship with renowned fashion designer Mr Dorian Ho. The competition is still accepting entries and the closing date is Friday 6th July.
?Designers dedicated to uniform design are scarce in Hong Kong, and yet the demand for exceptional uniform design continues to grow because like interior design, team uniform helps to set the hotel apart from its competition.? Shared Mr Dorian Ho, ?I find uniform design fascinating because the criterion is often stringent, and the design must strike the perfect balance between aesthetics and pragmatism. The designer must fully understand what the brand stands for before he or she can express it in the design. A competition like this one is an amazing opportunity for aspiring fashion designers to try their hand at creating practical designs that speaks volume for the brand.?
?We are honoured and excited to have Mr Dorian Ho on our judging panel and this contest is a golden opportunity for aspiring fashion students to shine,? shared Director, Group Marketing & Corporate Communication, Mr Dirk Dalichau. ?The winner will gain practical experience before they graduate and see their designs come alive at the latest lifestyle hotel in Hong Kong.?
The judging panel for the competition includes Mr Dorian Ho, Dr Edmund Lee, Executive Director of Hong Kong Design Centre, and Business Personality Mr Martin Lee. The designs will be evaluated based on originality, practicality and its ability to convey the playful and energetic vibes of Mira Moon.
All fashion design students and graduates in 2011 and 2012 are welcomed to participate. Each student may submit one entry, and each submission must include 3 sets of uniform, totalling 5 designs in colour: Front of House Office / Concierge and Restaurant Staff (both male and female), and Room Attendants (unisex design), along with proposed fabrics and materials, presented over a maximum of two A1-sized boards.
