I?m sure everybody knows the annual Good Food and Wine Show was on the 23 ? 26 August, and The International Hotel School received the contract to assist the Chefs In Action Theatre again this year.
I personally didn?t know much about the Chefs this year, but we hosted the following Chefs:
- Benny Masekwameng ? MasterChef South Africa Judge
- Reza Mahammad ? Reza Indian Spice
- Cyrus Todiwala ? Caf? Spice Namast?
- Deena Naidoo ? MasterChef South Africa Winner
- Jenny Morris ? The Giggling Gourmet
- Sid Sloane ? Kids Presenter
- Antonio Carluccio ? Two Greedy Italians
- George Calombaris ? MasterChef Australia Judge
This year there were bigger sponsors; all our ingredients were sponsored by Woolworths. So it?s said that we got ?the best?, and yes, we did receive extremely good quality ingredients, but the best in my opinion is if you grow it yourself!
The same as last year, the chefs stayed at the Southern Sun Elangeni. This is a very nice hotel; probably one of the best known and busiest hotels in Durban. I did some training in it, thus I speak from experience. It?s nothing new for them to cater for more than 500 people for breakfast!
The one thing that was different from last year was that Maserati was the proud sponsor of ALL ground transportation of the chefs!
This sounds great, and I?m sure it was, but Cyrus Todiwala complained because he couldn?t come to the show when he wanted to, as the Maserati was not booked for him at that time. I worked with Cyrus and had his prep under great control, so it was no issue for him to come later.
The show had some familiar faces and then some totally new faces. I loved the fact that some of the stalls remembered me from last year, including the MC for the Chefs In Action Theatre. She also asked if I ever called Rachel Allen on her offer to go to Ireland. She was very pleased to hear that I just returned from Ireland…
