Located at the Royal Opera House, The Olympic Journey: The Story of the Games, is a free exhibition in collaboration with The Olympic Museum in Lausanne running until Sunday 12 August.
The exhibition is specially created for London taking visitors on the journey from ancient Greece to the Olympic Games we know today, and tells the stories of 16 Olympians of modern times including: Sir Steve Redgrave, Olga Korbut, Dame Kelly Holmes, Balbir Singh and Aleksandr Karelin through video and audio footage on vast ribbons through the Paul Hamlyn Hall and special screens.
Examples of all of the summer Olympic medals from 1896 to London 2012 will be on display, as well as all the summer Olympic torches since 1936. Visitors can even have their photo taken with the London 2012 Olympic torch for free.
Antoine de Navacelle, the great nephew of the founder of the modern Olympic Movement, Pierre de Coubertin, visited the exhibition on the opening day and welcomed the opportunity for his great uncle?s vision to be shown to a new generation of people through the stories of great Olympians.
