Wiggins now has more Olympic medals than any other Briton in history, having claimed gold in Wednesday?s cycling time trial to surpass rower Steve Redgrave?s record of six medals ? though Redgrave has more golds.
But the London-born cyclist remained down-to-earth in his victory celebrations, posting a photo of himself enjoying a drink in the shadows of St Paul?s cathedral. He tweeted: ?overwhelmed with all the messages, Thank You everyone it’s been emotional X?
Despite being a household name, the Team Sky cyclist wants to retain his ?normal lifestyle?, declaring: ?I?m not a celebrity, never will be one and don?t consider myself one. I despise that whole celebrity culture.?
But Wiggins will find it hard to avoid being spotted, as teammate David Millar made clear in tweeting a photo of Thursday morning?s newspaper stand. ?Going to the supermarket just became even more difficult for Brad? he joked.
World champion Mark Cavendish also found reason to tease his teammate for his greater public profile, posting a photo of a smurf toy with a Wiggins-inspired haircut ? who knew side-burns were aerodynamic?
