[yellow tail] has been awarded the Grand Gold medal, the highest award possible, at the prestigious Great MUNDUS VINI International Wine Awards for the 2005 [yellow tail] Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon, which was also named Best Dry Red of Show.
MUNDUS VINI is the largest officially recognised wine competition in the world. More than 6,000 wines were entered from wine producing regions around the world.
Gold medals were also awarded for the 2010 [yellow tail] Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2010 [yellow tail] Reserve Merlot.
The MUNDUS VINI judging panel is made up of German and international oenologists, wine analysts, wine retailers, sommeliers, restaurateurs and wine journalists from over 40 nations. The wines are evaluated and awarded points based on appearance, smell, taste and harmony/overall impression. No more than one-third of wines entered are given awards that range from Gold, Silver and Bronze.
John Casella, founder of [yellow tail] was delighted to receive news of the gold medals, especially the Grand Gold medal.
“We’ve come a long way since we first launched [yellow tail] in 2001 and as Australia’s largest family-owned winery, we’re proud to have achieved an award of this significance.
“Over 2 million consumers enjoy [yellow tail] wine each day and an award like this helps to show that the world’s leading industry experts also appreciate the quality of our wines,” said John.
[yellow tail] Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium wine that showcases the talent of our winemakers as well as our excellent vineyard resources. It displays aromas of delicious ripe blackcurrants and plums that are supported by well integrated oak and fine tannins.
[yellow tail] Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon embodies the essence of all great Australian reds. Aromas of ripe, black cherries, mint and oak reward the senses while velvety smooth tannins provide excellent structure and length to this complex, elegant wine.
[yellow tail] Reserve Merlot boasts layers of black cherry, vanilla and mocha which come together to produce a soft, velvety mouth feel. This seamless and well structured wine has good texture and well balanced tannins finishing with length and a touch of spice.
