Adding heat to competition down under, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has unveiled plans to increase flights from Australia to 112 from 102 per week before the end of this year.
Already serving five Australian ports as well as launching its low-cost carrier to Darwin earlier this year, the airline?s regional vice president Subhas Menon told media that Australia was one of three destinations the carrier hopes to target this year and expects the bulk of flights to fly between Australia and China, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
”We see both of those markets as growing in terms of prominence in our network, as well as areas that we have identified as future growth centres,” Mr Menon said.
Earlier this month China Eastern also said it was keen to increase flights between Australia and China ? to meet growing demand between the two regions.
The carrier said it was looking to tap into the Queensland market with a twice weekly service between Cairns and Shanghai.
