An investment group that includes Boston-based Rockpoint Group and Hawaii-based BlackSand Capital has purchased the Ohana Waikiki West hotel.
Two blocks from Waikiki Beach, the 659-room property will be managed by Outrigger Enterprises Group, which has overseen day-to-day operations at the hotel since 1970.
Looking to reposition the property as an upscale hotel, the new owners plan to begin a phased renovation at the Ohana Waikiki West in the spring of 2014. The work will include modernizing guestrooms, extensive upgrades to the lobby and pool area and the addition of a full-service restaurant and lounge.
Developers also plan to pursue LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, incorporating eco-friendly features such as LED lighting, low-flow water fixtures and energy-saving windows.
