Destination Hotels appoints Mark Sherburne as GM at The Carolina Inn

Destination Hotels & Resorts (DHR) announced that Mark Sherburne has been appointed to General Manager at The Carolina Inn. Sherburne spent almost two decades in the local hotel industry, most recently as General Manager at aloft Chapel Hill, and officially starts on November 11.

?The Destination Hotels & Resorts and Carolina Inn teams are thrilled to have long term resident of Chapel Hill Mark Sherburne as our new General Manager,? said Kevin Regan, Senior Vice President of Operations for DHR. ?Sherburne?s proven leadership skills and commitment to the Chapel Hill community make him the perfect fit at the historic Inn.

Having unveiled a historically significant renovation deemed the most comprehensive and most exciting in its 89-year history, The Carolina Inn is positioned to greatly broaden its appeal under this new leadership. Along with completely remodeling the guestrooms and extensively renovating the function rooms and public areas, much of the Inn?s infrastructure was updated.

?The renovation offers a tremendous opportunity for the Inn to attract a much wider spectrum of guests,? Sherburne said. ?The Carolina Inn now offers a more approachable and less formal atmosphere for all guests, not just for special occasions. The community is excited about the renovation. The Inn has always been known as ?The University?s Living Room,? and now it?s the Community?s Living Room as well.?

A constant in Sherburne?s career has been exemplary customer service ingrained from his college Walt Disney World guest services internship to consistently generating exemplary guest loyalty ratings for almost two decades. According to Sherburne, ?Excellence in customer service is an important mantra to meeting all guest needs. It?s also beneficial that the Inn now offers many more creature comforts from home that guests expect and appreciate.?

Sherburne successfully opened two new hotels in his most recent GM roles at aloft Chapel Hill (July 2010-October 2013) and Four Points by Sheraton RDU (June 2009-July 2010). He also helped the properties garner an array of accolades: 2011 Hotel of the Year (No. 2 in 2012) by Starwood Hotels & Resorts for all aloft Hotels in North America; 2011 New Hotel of the Year by Interstate Hotels Crossroads Division; 2011/12/13 Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor; and Top 10 percent of all Starwood North American Four Points properties.
