At the NSW Tourism Awards in Sydney, the Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains received both the Best Business Tourism and Best Deluxe Accommodation awards.
The hotel, which is now in its 25th year of operation, received $12 million worth of renovations to its guestrooms, public areas and facilities in 2012, and additional expansion plans including a new day spa are on the cards.
The resort?s general manager, Bernie Boller, said the awards highlight the ability of the hotel’s staff and owners to provide guests with a first-class service.
The Novotel Sydney Olympic Park was presented with the Silver Best Deluxe Accommodation award, meanwhile the Pullman Sydney Olympic Park took out the Silver Business Tourism and Silver Luxury Accommodation gongs.
Further south, The Canberra and Capital Region Tourism Awards saw Novotel Canberra receive the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism for the second year running.
In addition, it took out the Austereo Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism, which included a media prize package worth $12,500.
Neil Paterson, general manager at Novotel Canberra said the awards are evidence of the hotel?s commitment to environmentally friendly practices.
?Winning the Sustainable Tourism award for the second year running is a real pat on the back for all the work our staff go to and I share this award with them.
?Some of the standout initiatives we?ve put in place include our electric car charging station which we provide free for guests using our carpark, our roll out of Accor?s Planet 21 green program and our support of the worm farm at Able Organic Recycling in Weston Creek where all of our food scraps go,? Paterson said.
He added the hotel and its staff will continue to go out of its way to introduce new envirnomentally friendly practices in a bid to make Canberra a greener place.
Novotel Canberra?s business development executive, Mollie Walsh was named the Young Achiever in Tourism.
