Bangkok?s high global tourism ranking can be attributed to the unbridled and chaotic lifestyle of its streets and people, according to industry forum debaters at the Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2013 (TTM+ 2013).
Keynote speaker Professor Greg Richards re-iterated Bangkok?s relevance as a tourism hub by recalling the recent announcement that Bangkok was cited as the world’s best city for tourism, based on the MasterCard Worldwide Global Destination Cities Index 2013 survey.
Mr Richards highlighted creativity, organisation and openness as a recipe for successful tourism.
Debaters took turns to discuss the qualities that set Bangkok apart from other tourism cities, noting the eccentric charisma and liveliness that encourages people to return time and again.
?Bangkok has its own charm and attractions… it is also chaotic and that is what makes Bangkok different from other cities,? Thailand Incentive and Convention Association president?Sumate Sudasna said.
?People come here for creativity as well as the chaos… If you take away these weird and exciting things of Bangkok, people will come and say this is not the Bangkok I know.?
Author and TV personality Andrew Biggs described Bangkok as ?organised chaos?.
?Where I come from, Australia, the cities and its inhabitants are mostly tame and structured, which is why people from Australia want to come to Thailand, and vice versa,? Mr Biggs said.
