New ?100m, 303-bedroom hotel to be developed in North Yorkshire

A 303-bedroom hotel ? one of the largest in the north of England ? is to be developed between York and Harrogate.

Work will get underway at the end of the month on the ?100m Flaxby Country Resort, which is being developed by York-based property company Skelwith Leisure on the existing 27-hole Flaxby Golf Course, near Knaresborough.

Set to open in 2015, the hotel will feature restaurants, bars, a spa, gym, conference centre and boutiques, totalling over 240,000 sq ft in size, within a 283-acre estate.

Paul Ellis, managing director of Skelwith Leisure said the planning process had been ?a long journey?, but was delighted to finally get the project started.

?We have been working hard for the last three years with Harrogate Council, North Yorkshire Council, the Highways Agency and various other parties to get to this position.? It is a large and complex development and one which we feel will offer many benefits to the whole area.”
