The Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront, Cape Town in South Africa is Rezidor?s most energy efficient property across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The property is the winner of Rezidor?s energy saving initiative Think Planet. In recognition of the hotel?s stellar performance, all 230 employees have received a bicycle on the occasion of a celebration event in Cape Town.
Inge Huijbrechts, Vice President Responsible Business at Rezidor, personally attended the prize giving and commented: ?A crucial factor in our Think Planet energy saving initiative is staff engagement. The dedicated team at the Radisson Blu Hotel Waterfront achieved fantastic results, and demonstrated that we are able to considerably reduce our environmental footprint. Think Planet further strengthens Rezidor status as one of the industry leaders in terms of sustainability?.
Rezidor, one of the fastest growing hotel companies worldwide and a member of the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, launched Think Planet in 2012 ? setting an ambitious goal of reducing the total energy consumption by 25% across the entire portfolio by 2016.
Michael Rathgeb, General Manager of the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, said: ?Our staff qualified for this prize by completely obliterating the 5% target set for year one and by achieving the highest overall reduction in energy ? a remarkable 28% – or 1 million kwh, equivalent to 20,000 LED bulbs lit for one year. I am very proud of how the whole hotel championed this noble cause, and for the valuable part each staff member played in reducing overall energy consumption?.
