Brits favour short-haul capital cities this Easter, according to research from hotel comparison site?trivago.co.uk. Out of the 25 most searched for destinations this Easter weekend (18th to 21st April), the top three are capital cities (London, Amsterdam and Paris). Only three long-haul destinations make the list (Dubai, New York City and Las Vegas). In fact, Brits seem to favouring the ‘staycation’ option this year, with 13 out of the top 25 destinations located in the UK.

When compared to the weekend directly after Easter (25th to 28th April), hotel prices increase for Easter by up to 31 per cent in some destinations. The worst offenders are Benidorm (up 31 per cent to an average of ?91 per night), Brighton (up 20 per cent ?136) and Costa Adeje (up 20 per cent to ?165). It is interesting to see overseas destinations raising their hotel prices, as this problem was previously attributed to UK destinations during the school holidays.

It is encouraging to see that the largest price increase is just 31 per cent ? during the February half term?trivago reported?that some destinations increased their hotel prices by up to 58 per cent. It is also positive to see that on the whole, UK hoteliers have not raised their prices extravagantly ? perhaps having learnt their lesson following the February half term backlash.
