Antarctica and the South Shetland Islands
Icebergs and spectacular glaciers, sightings of orca and sperm whales and the opportunity to get close to human-sized penguins and elephant seals are among reasons expedition cruisers are attracted to the stark landscape of the “Great White Continent.” What you won’t find here are many people.
Galapagos
Virtually untouched by man, these islands, about 600-miles off the coast of Ecuador, are one of the few places where you’ll find birds and other critters seemingly unafraid of your presence. You can snorkel with Galapagos sea lions, get close to a huge iguana or have a staring contest with a blue-footed booby. Hundreds of species here are found nowhere else on earth.
The Arctic
Polar bears rule in the North Pole. But the pristine wilderness of glaciers and icebergs also happens to be jaw-dropping beautiful. In addition to the huge bears, you will want to keep your binoculars at the ready to spot some of the thousands of rare seabirds, walruses and beluga whales. You will also encounter reindeer.
The Kimberly
Head to the outback in the far northwest of Australia, where the Indian Ocean meets the Timor Sea, to explore a wildly beautiful coastline of rugged red cliffs, white sands and remote islands, only accessible by ship. Exploring isolated gorges with towering rock faces you’ll view massive waterfalls and spot wildlife including saltwater crocodiles.
