The Handelshof in Essen shines bright once more: Bernd Peter Bittkow, an experienced hotel manager with an international reputation, is responsible for the reopening of the Novum Select Hotel in a great location next to Essen’s central station. The 41-year-old hotel manager assembled the hotel team personally and is now planning the first months after the soft opening, which is set for mid-October 2016.
„For me, this is a dream come true, to be able to direct such a large property with its rich history and tremendous significance“, says an excited Bittkow. The historic hotel opened 1913 and operated by the parents of popular actor Heinz Rühmann. This landmarked property is going to be reopened after its comprehensive renovation as a raised four-star hotel under the „Novum Select Hotels“ brand including 198 rooms, a bar, restaurant and conference halls.
Bittkow is accurately preparing every step of the new challenge. For the internationally experienced hotels specialist, managing the Handelshof and his affiliation with one of the fastest growing hotel chains in Germany is another milestone in his career.
Born in Saxony, he completed his training in the renowned Hotel Traube Tonbach in Baiersbronn. He was educated at the Heidelberg Hotel Management School as a hotel economist. Bittkow subsequently began his career at reputable hotel chains in France, Switzerland and the United States. His last post was Financing Director at the Hotel Nikko in Düsseldorf and the Dorint Hotel Maison Messmer in Baden-Baden, while also managing the Schloss Storkau.
“With the reopening of the Handelshof in Essen, the Novum Hotel Group gains a top hotel landmark in Germany. We are excited to revive the long and rich tradition of this venerable property, which is a prime example for the history of the hotel industry “, says David Etmenan, Chief Executive Officer of the Novum Group.
