Cool, but not warm welcome: Westin flagship hotel opens in Hamburg at new landmark of Elbphilharmonie

Hamburg, Germany – 1 December 2016
It’s a stunning landmark, the concert hall Elbphilharmonie in the harbour of Germany’s port city Hamburg. Part of the impressive building is the 244-key Westin hotel. General manager Dagmar Zechmann and his international team hopes on much more guests – direct booking up from 260 Euros per night – and more applicants. The interior design is very minimalistic. The architect forbid picture and flowers in the guest rooms. Overall, the design concept is now eight years old, even at the official opening. The hotel has been built years before the Elbphilharmonie could be finished. Several furnitures and technical equipments seems not to be the latest ones. And: The lobby is not really ‘living’.

Overlooking Germany’s famed port city, the hotel resides within the Elbphilharmonie: Hamburg’s new architectural landmark, home to two esteemed concert halls as well as luxury residences. Reimagined with a striking glass facade and thoughtfully-designed interiors, the storied building – once a historic riverside warehouse – is now poised to deliver a new level of well-being in the bustling city.

Situated in the Speicherstadt warehouse district, recently designated Unesco World Heritage Site, The Westin Hamburg extends over 21 floors with floor-to-ceiling windows that boast panoramic views of the city and port. The hotel features 205 well-appointed guestrooms and 39 expansive suites, including a spectacular top-floor owner’s suite spanning 160 square metres with a private balcony affording a 270-degree vista. Guests can expect an array of signature Westin services and amenities, including the world-renowned Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Bath experience.

Under the direction of internationally acclaimed Chef Martin Kirchgasser, ‘The Saffron’ restaurant delivers a stylish and sophisticated fine-dining experience with Hanseatic influences in the dramatic surroundings of the Kaispeicher warehouse building.

Spread over 1,300 square metres, the state-of-the-art ‘Elb Spa’ includes a Westin Workout studio, a 20-metre indoor pool – one of the city’s largest, six therapy rooms and a range of thermal facilities. Guests can also participate in the renowned Run Westin program featuring specially created three- and five-mile running routes through the neighborhood for self-guided active exploration or guided by the hotel’s Run Concierge.

With the opening of The Westin Hamburg, the renowned well-being and hospitality brand has six hotels throughout Germany, including in Frankfurt, Berlin, Dresden and Leipzig.
