In China, upscale hotels need more than just a “Grand Opening“ for a successful kick-off. The more exciting the event is to promote a new luxury property, the better. Shanghai Disney resort took off with the world premiere of ‘The Lion King’ musical in a Mandarin-language production to celebrate the opening of their latest multi-million dollar investment: the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel with 420 rooms and the playfully designed, 800-room Toy Story Hotel.
The epic musical show took place in the Walt Disney Grand Theatre in Disneytown, offering 1,200 seats. The evening performed as a high-class red-carpet event with the grandezza of an authentic Broadway experience – exactly what Chinese people love.
The first-of-its-kind Shanghai Disney Resort creates differentiation by combining the very best of Disney with Chinese preferences to make it an overwhelming, tailor-made cultural fit. It features the newly designed Magic Kingdom-Style theme park and Shanghai Disneyland with six themed districts, filled with immersive attractions: Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove and Fantasyland. These are located around the iconic Enchanted Storybook Castle, the biggest and most interactive castle a Disney park has ever seen.
Furthermore, the resort features world-class live entertainment, two luxury hotels, a shopping, dining and entertainment district – called Disneytown – and a 98-acre recreational area, called Wishing Star Park, offering a public lake.
