Dusit International has become the first hotel group in Thailand to have multiple properties awarded Gold Certification by EarthCheck, the world’s leading environmental management and professional service group.
Nine Dusit International properties that have continuously benchmarked and certified their environmental and social performance through EarthCheck Certified have reduced their greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 34 percent, cut energy and water consumption by almost 20 percent, and reduced waste production by more than 2 million litres.
Stewart Moore, CEO and founder of EarthCheck, congratulated Dusit International on its long-term commitment to sustainability.
“Dusit International has worked with EarthCheck since 2009 to implement a sustainability management system which aligns to the group’s corporate social responsibility approach, and we are very pleased to be awarding Gold Certification to these nine properties,” said Moore.
“Each property has individually taken responsibility for reducing its environmental footprint and encouraging community engagement.
“In addition to extensive energy reduction and water conservation programs, their actions also support local schools and disadvantaged students.”
Suphajee Suthumpun, group chief executive officer of Dusit International, said: “Dusit International believes responsible tourism requires more than operating a building in a sustainable way. We encourage everyone, from staff to guests, to understand and embrace our approach to sustainability.”
One of Dusit’s top priorities is the well-being and health of children. The group has developed a partnership with Operation Smile, a charitable organisation that mobilises a force of medical professionals to provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery and related medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate.
