Most wanted investment partner to expand strong in Europe – Deutsche Hospitality to plan new Intercity and Jaz hotels

Frankfurt, Germany – 20 July 2017 –
Deutsche Hospitality and developer GBI are launching a comprehensive programme of cooperation for the development of new hotel locations. The main emphasis is on the IntercityHotel and Jaz in the City brands, and the starting point will be four IntercityHotels in Heidelberg, Wiesbaden, Bielefeld and Graz. A total of around 800 rooms will be created within the direct proximity of the respective main railway stations in these cities.

Lease agreements have already been signed, and GBI has acquired the sites to be used in Germany from Deutsche Bahn as part of a package deal. These projects will strengthen the presence of Deutsche Hospitality on the German-speaking market and will continue to expand the IntercityHotel brand as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Steigenberger Hotels AG, commented: “Having GBI AG on board as partner will enable us to continue on our planned pathway of growth. GBI is developing these four properties in central locations, and this approach is precisely in tune with the brand essence of IntercityHotel.”

The series of IntercityHotel projects will get underway in Wiesbaden, where construction will commence in the spring of 2018 with an expected completion date at the turn of the year 2019/2020. The Graz construction project is scheduled to finish in 2020. The two other locations will follow in 2023.

The news that a Jaz in the City is set to open at the very heart of historic Vienna in 2020 means that the Austrian capital will soon boast a further hotel. This will make Vienna the first foreign location at which all three Deutsche Hospitality brands are represented. The Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof and the IntercityHotel Vienna are already firmly established in A1 central positions.

The newly planned hotel is being developed at Windmühlengasse 28 in Vienna’s Sixth District, only 100 metres from the large pedestrianised shopping area at Mariahilfer Straße and 200 metres away from the “Naschmarkt”, the city’s most famous food market. This is a quarter of Vienna that enjoys considerable popularity thanks to its host of tourist attractions, museums, restaurants and shops. The Jaz Vienna will offer 167 rooms including two suites. There will also be a restaurant complete with a bar, a small conference area and a health and beauty spa facility. Deutsche Hospitality will operate the hotel under a management agreement. The developer is Immovate Holding GmbH.

“Vienna exerts an inimitable flair that attracts people from all over the world,” said Chhatwal. “Opening a third hotel in the city enables to pursue our expansion in Austria whilst also strengthening our presence in one of the most important metropolises in Europe, a place which is home to numerous international organisations and institutions.”

Jaz is a brand that inspires. It reflects the lifestyle of a city, draws upon the local music and cultural scene and brings artists and their works into the hotel itself. The aim until 2020 is to have ten Jaz Hotels in the portfolio. The first hotel under the brand opened in Amsterdam in November 2015, and a second will open for business in Stuttgart this autumn. Preparations for the opening are continuing apace.
