Managua, Nicaragua – 31 October 2017 –
Auberge Resorts Collection announced that, as of November 15, 2017, the company will manage Mukul, the pioneering and multi-award-winning luxury resort in Nicaragua. Mukul, which captivated the world with the pristine beauty of Nicaragua when it opened as the country’s first luxury resort in 2013, is the vision of prominent Nicaraguan entrepreneur Don Carlos Pellas, who developed the 37-room resort and surrounding private residential beach community to celebrate the country’s biodiversity, rich culture and tradition of gracious hospitality.
Mukul, named for the Mayan word for “secret,” is located in a beachfront enclave on 1,670 acres defined by white sand beach, lush coastal forest and hills, home to four species of monkeys and abundant birdlife. The resort is the heart of Guacalito de la Isla, a $250-million private beach community on Nicaragua’s Emerald Coast.
Conceived as a relaxed yet luxurious estate by the ocean, the resort features 37 accommodations, including 12 Beach Villas, private one- and two-bedroom suites offering 2,000 to 4,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space, panoramic ocean views, private swimming pools and gardens, wrap-around decks and outdoor showers. Interiors feature custom-designed furnishings showcasing Nicaraguan craftsmanship, floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious bathroom suites designed as sanctuaries for the senses, each highlighted by a “Liquid Temple” wet room with freestanding soaking tub and monsoon shower.
Mukul’s 23 iconic Bohios resemble luxurious treehouses nestled in the hillside forest overlooking the resort’s private beach 300 feet below. Constructed of sustainable teak and pine, each of the 621-square-foot cliff houses features floor-to-ceiling windows and a wrap-around deck with private plunge pool. Spacious bath suites feature couples’ “showers-with-a-view.”
The “jewel in the crown” is Casona Don Carlos, the Pellas’ private beach house, a 20,000- square-foot oceanfront compound featuring an expansive indoor-outdoor living area with a soaring 80-foot-high palapa ceiling. Six bedroom suites are divided into two buildings featuring a wrap-around stone terrace and sharing a large private swimming pool.
Auberge will bring its renowned culinary signature to Mukul’s four restaurants to showcase cuisine from the Americas and Nicaragua’s abundance of local product. Guests will have a variety of bar and dining options, including La Mesa, for sophisticated Latin-inspired cuisine, to La Terraza, for al fresco dining with views of the ocean, Palapa Lounge, a beachside bar offering small bites, cocktails and daily vintage rum tastings, and Tres Ceibas, a dramatic bar built around a Ceiba tree and serving wood-fired pizza, burgers and other casual fare.
Amenities include Spa Mukul, a resort-within-a-resort featuring six spacious spa sanctuaries, each with its own private pool, décor, ambience and signature spa ritual, and each harnessing a different ancient healing tradition. Yoga classes are led by an in-house instructor on the treetop Yoga Pavilion overlooking the beach.
The resort’s private Guacalito Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 courses designed by David McLay Kidd to embrace the natural landscape. It features a clubhouse, putting green, driving range, pro shop, golf carts, a golf academy where golfers can fine-tune their skills and golf-training games for children.
