People across the UK have the chance to show their support for the Armed Forces later this month, when the fourth annual Armed Forces Day takes place.
The celebration of the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force is happening on Saturday (June 30th) – but people may reserve function venues or other party spaces in the intervening time, as a whole week of activities are planned in some areas.
This year, the main occasion will be centred around Portsmouth, but towns and cities throughout the UK will be taking part as well. The week will start with flags being raised today (June 25th), with marches and sea exercises among the events planned over the following six days, Press Association reports.
Sir David Richards, chief of the defence staff at the Ministry of Defence, said: “Flying the flag is an excellent way to show support, demonstrating how much we care for our servicemen and women, past and present, who continue to rise to the very difficult challenge of defending this country and our interests.”
According to eastlondonlines.co.uk, the 2012 edition of Armed Forces Day will see history made as Croydon becomes the first London borough to hold an Armed Forces Week.
As well as celebrating the role of people in the Armed Forces, the event is also being used to help local companies understand how they can support service personnel.
