As of 1 October 2011 every single licensed premises in Scotland will require to operate an ?age verification policy? whereby any customer who looks under 25 will require to prove that they are 18 or over before they can purchase alcohol. This requirement is commonly known as ?Challenge 25?. Failure to implement the policy will be a breach of your licence conditions as well as detrimental to proving that ?due diligence? has been taken care of when it comes to age related offences.
The quantum change is that if a person selling or supplying alcohol to anyone and they appear to be under 25 then:-
- The person concerned must ask them their age
- They must see the relevant ID
- They must be able to prove they have done this
