Free Carbon Trust & BHA biomass workshops

Hospitality News: RenewableEnergy
25MarchRenewableEnergy

The Biomass Heat Accelerator aims to catalyse growth of the medium-scale commercial and industrial biomass heating market by reducing costs, demonstrating best practice and addressing supply chain risks.

Managed by the Biomass Heat Accelerator team and in association with the British Hospitality Association the workshop aims to help you understand:

1.?????? The Renewable Heat Incentive as a policy, and how it interacts with other climate-change related policies

2.?????? The financial and business benefits to installing the system.

3.?????? Best practice and learning?s from the BHA when implementing and using biomass for heating.

After registration we will start the day by explaining RHI and the impact on business. We will then discuss the road map to implementation including the potential pitfalls and points to note. The day will finish with a light lunch and opportunity to network with colleagues.

Sessions will include:
Session title: “The Renewable Heat Incentive”
Session content: An introduction to the new subsidy regime (the Renewable Heat Incentive ? RHI) due to be launched by the Government which provides a significant subsidy for renewable heating systems.? The session will cover the basics of how the system will work, levels of funding available and the eligible technologies.? As typically larger users of heat, the session will also look briefly at how the hospitality sector could take advantage of the potential financial upside of the RHI to help them not only reduce on-going heat-energy costs but also reduce exposure to fossil fuel price volatility and improve corporate image by reducing carbon emissions.

Session title: “Biomass heating technology deployment”
Session content: As one of the most cost?effective of all the renewable heat technologies which are eligible for the RHI and also the best technology for providing despatchable heat in large amounts (i.e. large heat supplies when demanded by a system), this session will focus on biomass heating technology as being highly suitable for the hospitality sector.? The session will outline some of the basics of the technology and how to assure good design and successful implementation of a system.? The session will conclude with a case study example of the successful deployment of biomass heating in a hospitality application and will look at how the financial case of that project will now alter with the application of the RHI.? The session will also provide some ?top tips? based upon experience from the Biomass Heat Accelerator on the successful integration of this technology.

Session title: “Integrating biomass systems in the hospitality industry and procuring biomass fuel”
Session content: As one of the critical components to a successful biomass heating project, the Carbon Trust will share insight from the Biomass Heat Accelerator on this topic.? Subjects covered will include: what is available, where it comes from and some insight as to future price trends and availability forecasts.? The session will also cover procurement routes and suggested risk-management strategies.

After registration we will start the day by explaining RHI and the impact on business. We will then discuss the road map to implementation including the potential pitfalls and points to note. The day will finish with a light lunch and opportunity to network with colleagues.

The first event will be held at:
