The Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Brazil hosted the third edition of its Sustainability Awards for Spanish companies operating in Brazil that have carried out the best social or environmental protection projects. Meli? Hotels International received the award in the ?Contributions to Improvement in Corporate Development? category.
Rui Manuel Oliveira, Senior Vice President of the company?s Brazilian division, collected the award and stated that ?Meli? Hotels International is an international leader in sustainability in the hotel industry, and in Brazil we are contributing to the consolidation of a sustainable economic model while constantly increasing our participation in social, cultural and environmental protection projects?.
Since 1996 the Sustainability department in the Brazilian operations of Meli? Hotels International has developed programmes involving the participation and commitment of many different partners and hotel guests. In 2011 it carried out a total of 647 actions in the company?s 12 hotels in the country. Together with the corporate Sustainable Development department, last year it also organised a committee of company employees and members of UNICEF, WWW Brazil, CEDECA BA and the Abih Abrinq Foundation in order to share know-how and experiences, as well as to define common goals for sustainability.
Meli? Hotels International is one of the top three hotel management companies in Brazil, currently operating 12 hotels, and Brazil is one of the primary growth markets for the company. The Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Brazil is an association that has worked for more than 50 years on the promotion of economic and commercial relations between Spain and Brazil, and has more than 300 members from diverse industries.
