The Aberdeen Asset management Scottish Open was won on Sunday at the Castle Stuart Links, by the Indian Golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, when he defeated Italy?s Francesco Molinari in a play off at the 18th hole. The weather for the final round of the championship made the course more difficult for scoring than in the earlier rounds when Molinari broke the course record with a 62.
Singh said, “I would say I’m a very fortunate man, coming from India I’m not used to links courses but since coming to Europe I’ve played a lot of links courses. This victory has given me a lot of confidence and I can build on that. I’m feeling fit and good things are on their way in the future.?
Singh will be in the field for the Open Championship at Royal Lytham, which commences on the 19th July. Tiger Woods is the bookies’ favourite; however after taking one look at the course on Sunday, Woods labelled the course “unplayable” saying, ?Oh my God, you can?t get out of it (referring to the rough). We have always had the wispy stuff, but the bottom six inches is so lush its almost unplayable in some places.?
Royal Lytham is one of the toughest courses on the Open Championship rota and if the wind blows, as is the forecast, it will become a monster. High scores are going to be commonplace this week if the weather does not change for the better. Even so, record crowds are expected as the course is so centrally situated for visitors from both Scotland and England, also it is more accessible for Ireland?s golfers due to the close ferry and flight connections.
