Marrying sport and art

A successful edition
Since 2000, every four years, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) from the five continents are invited to take part in the Sport and Art contest organised through the IOC Culture and Olympic Education Commission, chaired by IOC member Lambis V. Nikolaou.

This year?s 4th edition included more than 60 artists who shared their vision of ?Sport and the Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect? through their graphic works and sculptures, demonstrating the creative and artistic strength that sport can inspire.

The three medal-winning and five diploma-winning works in each category will be exhibited at the Guildhall Art Gallery against the backdrop of the excavated ruins of London?s Roman Amphitheatre in the underground display area designed by architect Nigel Coates. The exhibition will run from 21 July to 15 August during the period of the 2012 London Games and will be open to the general public.
