IOC President Jacques Rogge and IPC President Sir Philip Craven signed the agreement today at the 124th International Olympic Committee Session in London.
The extension of the agreement will see the IOC make an increased financial contribution to the IPC as part of an ongoing commitment to help ensure the Paralympic Games? long-term future up to and including both the Winter Games in PyeongChang in 2018 and the Summer Games in 2020.
Under the terms of the agreement between the two organisations, the IPC will be included in a wide range of IOC programmes and activities, such as International Federation (IF) development, Olympic Solidarity and Transfer of Knowledge. There will also be greater cooperation in the areas of event planning and delivery.
IOC President Jacques Rogge commented on the signing of the agreement: ?The IOC and the IPC have had a long and strong relationship, and it is with great pleasure that that we are able to extend this agreement with the IPC.?
Sir Philip Craven, IPC President, said: ?These two agreements are excellent news for the Paralympic Movement as we, and our members, can continue our growth secure in the knowledge that our Games will benefit from using the same venues, infrastructure and levels of detailed planning as the Olympic Games.?
