The Courtyard San Diego Downtown to Begin Major Interior Upgrades

The Courtyard San Diego Downtown hotel, located on 530 Broadway Street, recently released photos of an upcoming hotel-wide renovation that will change the interior space of the guest rooms, meeting space and lobby, while still maintaining the historical features of this 1928 building. The photos include a model room, now on display and available for tours, that has been renovated and updated with the new concept, modern material and historical form.

The $5.5 million renovation will begin in late 2012 and will encompass the Courtyard by Marriott package while adding accents that are inspired by San Diego and the hotel?s existing d?cor. The lobby contains a painted plaster ceiling featuring a geometric design along with 35 decorative columns faced with marble from three different continents. The new design will be set to enhance these features in the lobby as they are one of the hotels most popular attractions.

The Courtyard by Marriott upgrades will include the addition of electronic Go Boards, community tables and pods that offer secluded work space and Starbucks coffee in the lobby. In the guest rooms, refrigerators and microwaves will be added for the guest as well as dark wood finishes, deep purple upholstery, crisp white linens and yellow and teal accents to compliment the California culture. The headboard, carpet and wallpaper were all modeled after the intricate design of the ceiling in the Grand Lobby.

?This renovation will feature attractive upgrades but will also preserve the historical bank elements of the building,? said Jody Blackinton, General Manager of the Courtyard San Diego Downtown. ?The Safe Deposit Box Room will still feature the vault entrance and the copula will still have a 360 degree view of the city.?

The Presidential Suite of this San Diego Marriott hotel also has a sprawling view of the west side of the city and will be renovated including the balcony space. The model room, historical meeting space and Presidential Suite are all available to the public for tours.
