Hotel gets nod for best Twitter account and use of emerging media
On the heels of a SMITTY award from Travel + Leisure, Four Seasons Hotel Austin is thrilled to announce it has received two new social media accolades from HOTELS magazine in the publication’s inaugural “Social Hotel Awards.”
The awards recognize both brands and individual properties in several categories relating to all forms of social media, with Four Seasons Hotel Austin taking home the prize for “Best Twitter Account” and “Best Use of Emerging Social Platforms” by a property.
Launched in 2009, the Hotel’s Twitter account is monitored seven days a week and has grown to more than 5,500 followers in three years. However, according to the magazine, it was the Hotel?’s proactive approach to engaging with followers that won the judges over.
“Listening for guests tweeting about the Hotel and then leaving care packages in their room recognizing them for the mention is certainly going above and beyond,” said one judge.
The awards also sought to identify brands and properties considered to be pioneers in new forms of social media, such as Pinterest, Google+ or Instagram. In its entry, Four Seasons Hotel Austin highlighted its early adoption of Pinterest and use of the medium to appeal to travellers in a visually compelling way.
Now boasting nearly 700 followers, the Hotel’s Pinterest account aims to be a resource on topics such as Austin, weddings, cuisine and luxury travel, a fact that was recognized by the judges: “There are several quality boards being displayed, providing topics that will appeal to many.”
Austin’s Four Seasons was also the recipient of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts Pinnacle Award in 2012 for “Best in Class: Public Relations/Social Media.” Since 2008, the Hotel has taken great pride in providing interesting content, behind-the-scenes tidbits and hosting creative contests on its various social media channels.
