The town of Luang Prabang boasts a history and culture that are intrinsically linked to Theravada Buddhism, with around 1,200 monks and novices residing in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. From 13-16 September the town will be celebrating Boun Khao Padap Dinh. This festival honours the deceased and culminates in boat racing on Nam Khan River. Another imminent celebration is Boun Ook Phan-Sa which marks the end of Buddhist Lent. Occurring 29 October – 1 November, it involves evening candlelit processions and hundreds of colourful floats decorated with flowers, incense and candles adrift on the Mekong River. Situated in the heart of Luang Prabang, Amantaka offers insight into Buddhist culture and an array of activities to get closer to daily life in Luang Prabang during these Buddhist festivals.
