Choice Hotels International (NYSE: CHH) is further deepening its commitment to Montgomery County and the City of Rockville through a special Rebuilding Together day of community service on October 19, 2012. Rebuilding Together is a nationwide home rehabilitation organization for the most vulnerable of our population ? low-income families and individuals, the elderly and disabled veterans. It is also the Choice Hotel’s signature cause.
In advance of relocating its global headquarters to Rockville Town Center next year, 75 associates from the lodging company will work side by side with volunteers at a Rockville-based organization identified by Rebuilding Together. Interfaith Works is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency which works to aid and empower low-income and homeless families and individuals in Montgomery County.
“As a hotel company we feel helping people who face challenges with food and shelter just makes sense,” says Steve Joyce, President and CEO of Choice Hotels International. “Our associates are very excited to help Interfaith Works support as many people as possible.”
It is yet another way Choice Hotels is getting to know its new neighbors in Rockville. In August 2011, Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest hotel franchisors, broke ground for its new state of the art headquarters at Rockville Town Center after being based in Silver Spring for more than 40 years. More recently, the company announced the continued progress of a new upscale Cambria Suites hotel which will be constructed next to the new headquarters building.
“It would be easy for a company, or anyone for that matter, to simply cut a check for charity,” continues Joyce. “But our associates wanted to take action to show how serious we are about supporting not just the business community of Rockville, but our new neighborhood as a whole. So we’re giving our associates the day away from the office to do just that.”
The Choice Hotels employees will be joined by Lynne M. Benion, CEcD, Associate Director, Rockville Economic Development, Inc. who will roll up her sleeves for the day in support of the project.
In addition to helping people achieve skills that lead to self-sufficiency, Interfaith Works provides shelter, clothes and food to neighbors in immediate need. Teams of Choice Hotels associates will assist with tasks such as assembling and moving furniture, as well as sorting and organizing the large volume of donated items.
