Tourism department moots hotel management institute at Farmagudi

Register Service Photo: RainerSturm  / pixelio.dePANAJI: The?tourism department?will construct a hotel management and catering institute (IHM) at Farmagudi, Ponda, at an estimated cost of 23.18 crore. The project aims at boosting the?hospitality industry?and providing jobs and training opportunities for the state’s youth in the hospitality sector.

The project has been approved and will be funded by the ministry of tourism, government of India, while?the Goa government?will contribute 50% of the project cost. The building will be constructed through the Goa tourism development corporation (GTDC), which has been designated as a special project vehicle (SPV).

GTDC floated a tender inviting bids for the construction of the institute.?The GTDC?aims to complete the construction within 270 days.?Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar?said, “With the construction of the IHM, the hospitality sector will receive a big boost.”

The area earmarked for this project is 40,000sq m with a built-up area of 11,000sq m. This project will also include a girl’s hostel with 25 rooms, with a built-up area of 1,125sq m.
