Marriott International to open 12 more hotels in India

Marriott India?American hospitality major?Marriott International?plans to open a dozen hotels in India by 2015, adding to its existing count of 23 properties, a company official said.

“Currently we have about six to eight definite openings in 2014 and 2015 is going to be a very strong year for us,” Rajeev Menon, area vice-president,?South Asia?and Australia, of Marriott Hotels, said.

Marriott, which operates more than 3,800 hotels around the world, opened a 523-room JW Marriott hotel at Aerocity hospitality district near Delhi airport on Thursday.

“This property is not outside the city and we hope to have an average length of stay of two to three nights as opposed to the global average of approximately six hours at airport hotels,”?Simon Cooper, president and managing director, Asia-Pacific, at Marriott International, said.

The launch was delayed for nine months because of security concerns raised by the Delhi Police. As many as 12 other hotels with nearly 5,500 rooms are slated to open in Aerocity with an approximate investment of 10,000 crore. Some of the other brands in the area include Lemon Tree, Red Fox,?Holiday Inn?and Ibis.

Marriott’s future projects in the country include two Renaissance properties in Lucknow and Bangalore, two?JW Marriott hotels?in Mumbai and?Kolkata, three?Courtyard by Marriott?hotels in Agra, Bilaspur and Jaisalmer and a potential resort property in Goa.
