Leisure hotel rates to rise 4 percent during holidays

Leisure Hotel Rates to Rise 4 Percent During HolidaysPegasus Solutions?said this holiday season is outperforming the 2012 season. The company predicts leisure bookings will climb 4 percent year-over-year during the 2013 holidays.

?Many hotels look to the holiday season as a windfall that will make up for any slow periods from the rest of the year,? said David Millili, chief executive officer of Pegasus Solutions, in a statement. ?November opened the 2013 season with a solid start, including leisure gains globally, and relatively solid corporate performance. What?s significant is that the increases we saw came on top of increases we saw in 2012, which were increases over 2011, and so on.?

Consumers made 1.9 percent more leisure bookings in November than last year at an average of 3.3 percent higher rates. With the exception of Europe, all regions saw single- and double-digit growth, with rates within 1 percent of the prior year. In North America, rates climbed almost 5 percent over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Corporate reservations were not as strong. Reservations made through the GDS in November were down 1.5 percent globally from 2012. Alternatively, rates were 1.7 percent higher.
