The Palms in Vegas lets guests sleep in

Hospitality News: The Palms in Las VegasTravelers will now be able to hit the snooze button a few more times after a night out in Las Vegas when they stay at the Palms Casino Resort.

The 1,200-room hotel is rolling out a 24-hour checkout for all guests at no extra cost.

So if you check-in at 8 p.m. on Friday, you will be able to stay until 8 p.m. on whichever night you choose to leave. All you have to do is book your room directly on the hotel’s website and plug in the time you plan to check in.

Other hotels across the country have experimented with 24-hour or late check-outs. For instance, Westin Hotels & Resorts last year launched the “Make Monday Better” program which allows for a free 3 p.m. checkout on Sunday at all its properties.

“Whoever determined that 12 noon was the perfect check-in, check-out time was thinking of the housekeeping shift, not the guest,” says Chekitan Dev, marketing professor at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and author ofHospitality Branding. “With customers becoming more demanding, and intensifying competition for market share, the hotel industry is developing standard operating procedures that are more guest-centric rather than operations-centric.”

Daniel Lee, CEO of Palms Casino Resort, says this is the first time a hotel this large has tried it. He also says it’s the first hotel in Vegas to provide the service.

“It always struck me as a bit odd that we make people check out at 11 in the morning or noon, and we don’t let them check in until 3 or 4,” he says. “If you look at the car rental industry, you get a car for 24 hours.”
