Times Square Named New York?s Top Tourist Attraction

New York?s neon heart, Times Square, is the city?s most popular tourist attraction, according to a global survey of international students.

Research by?Kaplan International English?revealed that visiting Times Square was the preferred tourist activity for more than one-third (35%) of international students with “The Crossroads of the World” proving more popular than many other famous New York destinations.

Times Square topped the ?What?s your favourite tourist attraction? category in Kaplan?s ?What to do in New York? survey, beating the likes of Central Park (24%), Brooklyn Bridge (14%), the Empire State Building (9%) and the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (3%).

Robert John Burck, better known as the Naked Cowboy, said: “Times Square is so amazing that I dedicated my life to being there. I’ve spent so much time enjoying the tourist attraction Times Square that I have somehow become a tourist attraction myself.

“Over 15 years I have worked through every day of every season in Times Square because it truly is the Greatest Place on Earth!”

Other survey results include:

  • ????Central Park is the most popular park or green space (59%).
  • ????Lion King is the favorite on or off-Broadway musical (43%).
  • ????SoHo is the most popular shopping destination (40%).
  • ????Madison Square Garden is the most popular live music venue (38%).
  • ????The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the favorite gallery or museum (33%).
  • ????The Meatpacking District is the most popular area for nightlife (27%).
  • ????Little Italy is the favourite area to eat out (21%).

Kaplan surveyed more than 350 English language students aged between 18 and 59 from 39 countries to discover what they loved about New York.

All survey respondents had studied in New York for at least four weeks in one of Kaplan?s language schools in the Empire State Building,?Midtown?or?SoHo?between 2007 and 2014.

Kaplan surveyed 355 international students from Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Mexico, Morocco, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.
