Lobby of Hotel Adlon Kempinski reopens after six million euro renovation
“We mainly took our inspiration from the famous elephant fountain, a present from the Maharaja of Patiala around 1930. He enjoyed the finer things of life and was particularly well known for his lavish lifestyle,” explained Anne Maria Jagdfeld at today’s reopening of the lobby. She was responsible for the complete redesign of the public areas of Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin.
After three months of refurbishment and renovation during normal hotel operations and an investment of six million euros, the heart of the hotel now shines anew with an architecturally streamlined design, new interior furnishings and a modern lighting concept.
“Timeless, elegant luxury with a classic grand hotel ambience – this is how we have injected new life into the Maharaja’s style,” explained the interior designer. Selected antiques and elegant furniture from Italy, magnificent Murano glass chandeliers and fine materials such as limestone, leather, brass and onyx are the characteristic elements of the new design. The colours are rich and brilliant to reflect the Indian style of the Maharaja: warm gold, turquoise, blue-grey and silver.
“Hotel Adlon was already one of the best luxury hotels in the world at the beginning of the 20th century. Ms Jagdfeld’s interior design has successfully combined the splendour of the hotel’s golden past with contemporary 21st century features,” said Emile Bootsma, Managing Director of Hotel Adlon Kempinski.
